What to do in Nerja on Christmas?

Christmas activities 

 

  • Santa Claus parade: on the 23rd, Santa will march Nerja streets full of presents. 
  • The zambombás: the zambomba is a traditional Spanish instrument. During these days, people play the zambomba singing Christmas songs walking around Nerja.
  • New Year`s Eve in Balcón de Europa: the 31st is one of the most important days in the year. Thousands of persons meet at the touristic Balcón de Europa to welcome the new year with the traditional 12 lucky grapes. The Salvador church rings the bells the last seconds of the year. After that, fireworks and live music take place until late in the evening.
  • From December 16th you can visit the Christmas market in Plaza España.
  • Living Nativity scene in the neighbour of Las Protegidas on December 18th.
  • Wise Men parade: Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar are the most expected event for children in Spain. On the evening of the January 5th, children live the illusion of see the Three Wise Men passing through the streets of Nerja.
  • Other activities: Christmas concert of the Municipal Music Band and the Municipal music and dance School. Also, in the Salvador church will be a concert of the Nerja Choral.

  • If we talk about Christmas and Axarquía, we cannot Migas Day in Torrox. It takes only 10 minutes by car. In Migas (Crumbs) Day tourists and locals enjoy the festival declared as National Tourist Interest of Andalucía. The migas (crumbs) are a typical recipe of Axarquía gastronomy.
  • Other nearby towns, such as Frigiliana or Nari, also offer a wide range of Christmas activities, with the advantage of being just a few minutes by car from Nerja.

  • Nerja Caves: a must visit. This magnificent natural cathedral deserves to be known and enjoyed by our visitors.

  • Hiking: the Nerja-Almijara cave trail is a magnificent option for a walk towards the mountains.
